Events in June 2022
Ludlow Men's Shed is taking part in two events in the coming weeks:
With a total of 25 stalls and demonstrations including long bow making, coracles, chair making etc. Ludlow Men's Shed stall will be focusing on green woodwork and giving people the opportunity to try working with a drawknife and shave horse (see the picture below). The Friends of Mortimer Forest are looking to establish forest-based projects (woodwork, whittling, basket making, yoga, nature study etc)., and Ludlow Men's Shed is one of the supporting partners.
On June 26th is Richard's Castle Soap Box Derby https://www.richardscastlesoapbox.co.uk- a hugely popular event and this year Ludlow Men's Shed is one of their sponsored charities. While the Shed hasn't made a soap box (maybe next year) they will have a stall with Splat the Rat and the Nail Challenge (how many nails can balance on one nail?)
Building upon its success in supporting the community throughout the Covid pandemic Hands Together Ludlow's project “Ludlow Men’s Shed’ is going (and growing) from strength to strength.
Men Sheds host similar activities to garden sheds – including woodwork, DIY and general making – but used by groups of men together as part of social activity. It’s a fact that men generally find it more difficult to build social connections than women and sometimes find it difficult to discuss personal or health issues so the Men’s Shed offers DIY opportunities as well as time and space for social interaction.
Ludlow Men’s Shed open times have now expanded and men can call in for enrolment on Mondays, Wednesdays and Thursdays from 10 am - 3pm. Because of restricted space the number of participants is limited and more volunteers are needed to allow for greater opening times.
The project is also in need of donations of hand tools and powered tools (preferably battery powered) - we are happy to receive hand tools that need repair.
We have to move out of our current 'Shed' in March, so if you know of somewhere in town that might be suitable, please get in touch.
