Community Fridge & Hub

Community Fridge

Housed in our building at 15 Lower Galdeford. Open each weekday 10am to 4pm. Everyone welcome!!

We work with local supermarkets and retailers, producers and growers to rescue good quality, surplus food, free of charge for re-distribution through our community fridge.

We are also lucky to receive very high quality, organic vegetables donated to us by local producers. We use this to supplement the fridge and use in our own cooking activities such as community lunches and healthy eating courses. These items will also form the core of our other Food Hub work as we develop it.

Anyone is able to use the community fridge for a £1.00 minimum donation. If you are unable to make a donation, we are able to provide additonal support and information.

We are open to all sorts of food donations so if you have a glut of runner beans on your allotment, or your shop has overstocked on Easter eggs, let us know. Contact our Food Coordinator, Julia, at food.coordinator@handstogetherludlow.org.uk or just drop in.

The fridge is staffed by volunteers on 3 hour shifts and we have collection drivers who pick up from shops each day. If you would like to offer you time see our volunteer pages.

Food Hub

Plans are currenly under developemnt but our building will be is a space that brings people together to eat, connect, learn new skills as well as reduce food waste.

  • In these challenging times The Space at Number 15 will provide a warm and welcoming space where our building and warm hub users can enjoy hot drinks and snacks.

  • We are recruiting a team of volunteers to staff the kitchen, serve refreshments and cook surplus from the fridge into hearty soups and (possibly) ready meals to go back into the fridge/freezer.
  • We’re very keen to engage with local schools and colleges where the café will provide volunteering opportunities for those who wish to pursue a career in catering.

  • Recipe cards and flyers will be available if you need help on cooking within a budget, making the most of your leftovers or using your freezer to save money. Feel free to ask for details on our Healthy Eating Cookery sessions…
